WORK SCHEDULE UPDATE

Ron Glasgow’s work schedule was accurate exactly one day. Unbelievably, thankfully, wonderfully, great helpers showed up and amazing things were accomplished. We were also blessed to discover when the old paneling was pulled off that the walls underneath were in better shape than anticipated and much less sheetrocking required. So there went Ron’s carefully planned schedule – we were way ahead of it after the first day of work!

Ron will be screaming as he reads this, because there is still much work left to do, and he doesn’t really want to do it all himself. There’s gonna be a whole lot of painting going on, as well as the baseboards, carpet, trim, and air conditioners to be installed. We will be there most weekends, as well as many days during the week. Please come and lend a hand and enjoy our time together as we improve our beloved Church and Camp property! See the article later in this Newsletter about the special event with Jessica Palmer following our work day on Saturday evening, April 14.

JOIN US APRIL 14 & 15!

According to Ron Glasgow’s Work Schedule, April 14 and 15 will be the days we put the final coat of paint on the new cabins. This calls for celebration! Jessica Palmer has agreed to give a demonstration of Mediumship on Saturday evening, April 14. We will have supper together that evening, wash the paint out of our hair, and then enjoy time with Jessica. She will also be conducting Church service on Sunday, April 15.
Jessica Palmer is an author who has four books coming out in the next year. She has previously written and had published 25 other books. She is an ordained minister, having done platform mediumship all over Great Britain. Her books on Native American culture and her animal work have taken her from New Mexico and Colorado to London and Oxford, giving talks and teaching workshops. Jessica runs an animal rescue shelter at her home in McPherson, Kansas.

Even though many of the cabins will be in the process of being remodeled during this weekend, we will have some that will be ready for guests. Please call Linda, 620-727-4329, if you wish to reserve a cabin for April 14. There is no charge for the cabins or meals on the work weekends (other than Ron Glasgow’s gentle persuasion that we all get busy and work).

Keeping Up With the Board – from President Karen Lyons

I think I’ll get a little personal in the article this month. I thank you in advance for your indulgence.

I have been preoccupied this week with memories of Irene. Irene Keith has been on the other side for a year. I think of her often. I talk to her a lot. Thank you for letting me share that. I can’t say that just anywhere, you know. Irene is smiling a lot these days, not that unusual for Irene. Every time I walk around the grounds of Sunset Church, I know that Irene is beside me. Just as Irene and I were prone to do when discussing the future and setting priorities. In her final weeks, Irene was concerned that she was letting us down. Thank you for all you have done to make her dreams for Sunset Church come true. And, Irene, thank you for all you have done too.

I think about you a lot too. The Sundays you can’t come to the Church your pew is empty. I think the pew is waiting for you. The Sundays you can come it is as if we just saw each other last week. It isn’t that I didn’t miss you when you weren’t there. It is as if you didn’t really miss being there.

I’m really at a loss of words when I try to tell you how I feel about you. Friends. Family. I was elected on some ones whim, if you believe in whims. I have taken my election as a calling. I don’t believe in whims. We have all been called to this place at this time to create together. That belief makes me humble and aware of how insignificant I am without you.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, though it is not enough, thank you. Thank you for the help with Camp, in working, in teaching, in being a minister to those who seek. Thank you for the help getting the cabins ready, sheet rock, paint, cleaning and clearing. Thank you for your donations of time, of money, of paper goods, of toilet goods. Thank you for sharing Sunset Spiritualist Church with us, with friends, with family, with those who seek.

I have been preoccupied this week. I have remembered you. I have not forgotten that you have been sick, needed surgery, just had surgery, were having problems at work, were having problems at home, are lonely. I have been thankful that you are well and happy, that you are a part of my life. Thank God. I love you.

Healing Work or Private Counseling available after any Sunday Church Service by an attending Minister.

SATURDAY APRIL 14
“A Demonstration of Mediumship” by Jessica Palmer

Join us on Saturday evening, April 14, for a fun and enlightening evening with Jessica Palmer. We’ll be working on the cabins during the day, then have supper together and relax in the evening with Jessica. Come for the whole day or just the evening, whatever fits your schedule. For those who don’t know Jessica, you’re in for a treat. Following is her biography – we are blessed to have her in our midst!

As an author, Jessica Palmer has written professionally since 1978. She has 10 novels, 2 novellas, and 11 textbooks to her credit, published by Scholastic Books, Simon and Schuster’s Pocket Books, and Harper Collin’s Thorsons. All totaled, her novels have been distributed in every English-speaking country in the world and her books have been translated into Norwegian, Russian, German Italian and Romanian. Her novellas were released exclusively in Holland. Her short stories have appeared in magazines and anthologies on both sides of the Atlantic while her textbooks have received global distribution. Palmer was nominated for the Bram Stoker Award for best first novel; listed in WHO’S WHO of American Women and in 1999 Starburst Magazines’ SF Top 200 and Germany’s Horror Lexicon published in 2001

As a lecturer in England, Jessica has spoken on such topics as Native American Spirituality, Native American Culture, Psychic Development and Animal Magic in London, Oxford, Cambridge and Manchester. The series of talks on Native American Studies were so well received that she was featured on the BBC television program, Heaven and Earth (November 22, 1998). She has continued giving classes in the US, her lectures taking her to New Mexico and Colorado.

In 2002 Animal Wisdom, A Definitive Guide to the Legends, Mythology and Medicine Power of Animals was released. It has been described as “one of the best books on the topic of animal magic . . . a high-quality piece of work and a superior reference when researching totems, and a definite change of pace from the same old stuff.” by Archive Book Reviews.

BOOK SWAP

If you have any metaphysical/spiritual books you’d like to swap for some different ones, bring them along to add to those we have on display in the dining room. Leave some, take some, no money involved, just sharing with one another!
