Keeping Up With the Board – from President Karen Lyons

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I will take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in Camp 2008. The Board spent the June meeting putting the final touches on the preparations for your arrival and the result was beautiful.

Camp was a nice distraction, but the Board began work again at the July meeting. The Board accepted a couple of donations which will provide some fun activities for younger children who attend Church. We also have a couple of volunteers to provide some teaching and supervision of activities for children.

In other business, the Board discussed the bath house. The grounds and projects committee reported that improvements in the bath facility is the next priority. The particulars will be discussed at the September meeting. Each Board member was asked to bring along a “wish” list to the meeting of features they would like to see in an improved bath house. If this issue has interest for you or you have ideas of your own, I encourage you to attend the September meeting with your own list.

I would like to publicly back down from a stance I have taken concerning the election of Officers of the Board of Trustees. Many of you know that I have been opposed to the practice of “campaigning” for election. I have held that we will be led by the Holy Spirit in choosing the leadership of the Church. I still believe that. I have come to the conclusion after many discussions with Church members that it is helpful to know who is interested in serving the Church as an Officer or Trustee. I would ask that each of you give this question some time in prayer. If you are willing to serve as an Officer or Trustee, please contact Linda Anderson as soon as possible. Linda will see that your willingness to serve is made known to the membership. To be eligible for election, one must have been a member of the Church for one year. To be eligible to cast a ballot, one must have been a member in good standing for a minimum of one year. Elections will take place the first Sunday of August.

The Board of Trustees has planned a number of workshops to be presented throughout the remainder of the Summer and Fall season. It is the mission of the Church to provide a place for learning and that is exactly the intention of the Board. We want to continue to offer workshops on a “freewill gift” basis. There are expenses to both the Church and the presenters. The usual cost of the workshop in August is $250.00. We do not expect or ask that you pay that amount. We do expect to cover the costs. I would ask that as you make plans to attend the workshops of interest to you, that you plan to give as you are able.

May the peace of God, the light of the Christ minded, and the love of the Spirit keep you until we meet again (SOON)!
