KEEPING UP WITH THE BOARD
by President Karen Lyons
I cannot deny that The Board of Trustees has made many difficult decisions over the last two years. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Board. The Board has had to navigate the legal waters, political waters, and come out into the calm spiritual waters. It has not always been easy and at times the water was very murky, but here we are. Another year has passed and we will welcome a new year with the promise of a better year.
Camp 2022 is scheduled for June 4 – 12th. I know. I know. I feel a bit like the boy in the story of “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”. Perhaps I have been quoted as saying, Camp is in June come hell or high water. Isabella and I may be the only ones who show up, but we will have Camp. I would like to hear from the workers who had committed themselves for the Fall 2021 season. If you can come in June, that will be great. In a couple of months we will be putting together the class schedule and publishing the Camp book. Now is the time to get on the schedule.
The Board has continued to meet once a month to conduct the business of the Church. Maintenance has continued along with updates and needed improvements. With the passing seasons changes naturally occur. One tradition has been frozen in time. Two years ago many of you purchased angels to honor the memory of loved ones on the angel tree. The angel tree still stands in the sanctuary. The angels along with the names and memories remain there hung with care. New angels have been added as we have all suffered new loss. The tree is lighted every Sunday morning. I never enter the sanctuary without saying a prayer of thanksgiving for the lives that are represented on that beautiful tree.
While the legal and political waters are dark, as Spiritualists we have the perfect navigation tool. We have the light. Spiritualists will always stand in favor of equal rights for all, and denounce those who violate the basic human rights of others. That light we access is not our own, but is the gift of God. Lest we forget, the greatest gift of all. It is that light that we send to the world through prayer and meditation. The same way we access that light for ourselves. Continue to pray for and meditate on the leaders of governments. Let there be peace on Earth and let it begin with me.
Merry Christmas and happy New Year. I’ll be seeing you in June, if not before.
