UPCOMING EVENTS
ANGEL TREE
The Ladies’ Aid is once again sponsoring our Christmas Angel Tree as a fundraiser for beautification projects. You may honor someone in the physical or spiritual realm by having their name placed on one of the lovely crystal angels or paper scrolls which adorn the sanctuary Christmas tree. A donation of $5.00 for each angel or scroll may be made through PayPal on the church website or by mailing payment to Sunset Church Ladies’ Aid, 103 Hanes, Wells, KS, 67467. Thank you for remembering your loved ones by contributing to the beautiful grounds of Sunset Church.
LOOKING AHEAD TO 2020!
CAMP
June 6 – 14, 2020 has been chosen for our annual Summer Camp at Sunset Spiritualist Church. Plans are just beginning but, as always, we welcome your input. If you have ideas for workers, classes, or are able to volunteer to help, please contact any Board member.
NEW EVENT!!!!!
FALL CAMP
In addition to our annual Summer Camp, Rev. Dr. Cynthia Killion proposed to the church membership that we have a second, shorter Camp experience in the Fall. After considerable discussion, we have decided to give this a try! October 8 – 11, 2020 is the time chosen for this new endeavor. The format will be the same as for our June Camp. So again, we welcome your input. If you have ideas for workers, classes, or are able to volunteer to help, please contact any Board member.
Prayer Requests
All prayer requests are shared with the congregation each Sunday morning at Sunset Church. When requested, they are forwarded via e-mail as well. If you have a prayer concern, please call any Board member or e-mail prayers@sunsetcamp.org
If you have e-mail and are not getting the Newsletter online, contact Linda 620-727-4329, or llundberg300@gmail.com . If you have e-mail but are still getting the hard copy in the mail and would be willing to be taken off of the snail mail list, please let Linda know about this also.
KEEPING UP WITH THE BOARD
by President Karen Lyons
The December Board meeting is scheduled for the 1st at 10:00 AM followed by a service and pot luck lunch for those who wish.
The Board has been working on proposed changes to the By-Laws. These changes are meant to clarify some areas and update others. Everyone will be informed of these proposals when they are finalized. I want to give you a heads up and let you know what is going on. We still have a way to go. Every member of the Church has a say in the finished product. Please be sure that the Secretary has an accurate email address or postal address if you prefer to receive notification by mail. When the time comes, everyone will receive notice of the proposal and have an opportunity to have their say.
The Board will begin planning Camp 2020. This year, we will be planning a Camp in June as usual, and an additional Camp in October. The Board of Trustees made the decision to host two Camps in response to a proposal presented by Rev. Cynthia Killion. Rev. Killion made the proposal in response to requests she heard from some of our members. This will be a first attempt. As the time draws near, if you are willing and able to help with the October event, please let us know. Of course that is also true for June.
At my request, the Ladies (not just for ladies) Aid Society will sponsor an angel tree in the Church this holiday season. For a donation of five dollars, one may attach the name of a loved one to be especially remembered and hang it on the tree. This is a favorite project of mine. I love to watch the tree fill with memories of those who are beloved and honored there. These donations are used by the Ladies Aid for landscaping projects as well as touching up paint and things like that. The little things that contribute so much to our enjoyment of the grounds.
We are in the holiday season of giving. For me, the season begins with Veterans Day when we give thanks to the veterans and all those who are serving and have served our country. Thanksgiving speaks for itself. A day we are reminded by the calendar to be thankful. What a shame that we have to be reminded. What a blessing that someone decided it might be beneficial for some who cannot recognize how blessed we are. Christmas with the tradition of gift giving in remembrance of the gift of life, the greatest gift of all. New Years Day to look back for a moment on the previous year to reflect on it’s events. What went well and what did not work out so well. But, more importantly to leave the past behind and look forward with excitement to the path ahead and the promise of better things and richer lives filled with love and grace. Happy Holidays!
